Have just been in Poundstretchers - although none of my pounds got stretched - nor spent! Liked the store’s layout - much better than QD’s - ‘cos you have room to move! In Food section I noticed that some of the branded goods - e.g. instant coffee, same price as other places. Will revisit soon - when I’ve got more time and no shopping to carry!

Staples UK has been sold by Staples USA to Hilco, the restructuring firm. Hilco have already confirmed they will be shutting down ALL stores in the UK, leaving just the brand and online operations. 1,100 jobs on the line.

Sad to lose all those jobs but this is a saturated market, there are lots of other places to buy the same products so hopefully people will make their purchases from a business which keeps the profit in this country. It would be nice to have some direction as to which are British owned companies and which are not - perhaps this could be made more obvious when we make online purchases?
It's grim up North...
