CCTV images of man sought in relation to burglaries - Lowestoft & Snape. (From email received at 15:16 today)

Police are releasing CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an aggravated burglary in Lowestoft.

Officers were called to a property on The Avenue at approximately 10:40am yesterday, Thursday 12 October, following reports of a burglary in progress where a window had been smashed and which had activated the house alarm.

A member of public reported seeing a man carrying a knife exit the property, who shouted threats as he ran towards a parked car, a grey Volvo.

The suspect drove the vehicle towards Blackheath Woods where it became stuck along a bridleway and he decamped.

Detectives are linking this incident to a second burglary in Snape earlier this week, where a car was stolen.

The break in occurred at a home address in Gromford Lane at some point between 6:30pm on Tuesday 10 and 2:30pm on Wednesday 11 October. Access to the property was gained via a window and keys to the grey Volvo were taken.

The suspect left another vehicle, a red Vauxhall Corsa which is also believed to be stolen, in the driveway of the premises.

Anyone with information about who the man is or about either of the incidents should call Suffolk Police on 101, quoting crime number 66624/17. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online form at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Lowestoft – E-fit issued in rape investigation
Text from an email received 12:25pm today

Detectives investigating an allegation of rape in Lowestoft at the weekend are renewing appeals for witnesses and issuing an E-fit likeness of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident. (See bellow)

The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday 9 December in Kimberley Road.

The victim – a woman aged in her 30s – was walking along Oulton Road at around 4am when a man driving what she describes as a small light or silver coloured car, stopped and offered her a lift, which she accepted as he appeared to be genuine and said he had just given a lift to two other people.

At some time between 4.15am and 4.55am the suspect stopped the car in Kimberley Road, where he raped the victim in the vehicle. She then managed to get out of the car and ran away to get help, following which the police were called.

The victim is being supported by specialist trained officers as efforts to identify the offender continue. This includes forensic work, along with CCTV and house-to-house enquiries.

The suspect is described as being Asian, aged between 30 and 40, short and of slight build. During the car journey he stated to the victim that he often offered people lifts to ‘make friends’.

Officers have now been contacted by other witnesses stating they were given a lift in similar circumstances by a man in Lowestoft shortly before the attack happened. The description they have provided of this man and the car are similar to that provided by the victim, with the added information that the car may have had a wheel trim missing.

Detective Superintendent Eamonn Bridger, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am appealing for anyone with information about this horrendous attack to contact us immediately, especially if you believe you recognise the man pictured in the E-fit or have seen a car matching the description given, particularly - but not exclusively - those with a wheel trim missing.

"The victim is being incredibly brave in working with our officers and we are determined to find the person responsible and bring him to justice.

"The suspect presented himself as a Good Samaritan offering the victim a lift on a cold night. We strongly believe that he has previously given lifts to other people and may continue to do so.

"I want to take this opportunity to urge the community of Lowestoft - and people of Suffolk as a whole - to never accept lifts from strangers. Always plan your journey home by walking in groups, making arrangements to get a lift with a friend, or using a taxi.”

Detectives are still trying to trace the driver of a blue or green coloured Ford Fiesta which had broken down in Kimberley Road at around 5.30am on Saturday morning to come forward. He was given assistance by a local resident to get the car started and may have vital information to assist the investigation.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Kimberley Road, or any of the other roads along the route taken by the suspect’s vehicle (detailed below), between 4am and 4.55am to make contact. This includes anyone who witnessed anything suspicious and anyone who may have dashcam, headcam or CCTV footage.

The route the car travelled along is believed to have included the following roads:

Oulton Road, Church Road, Boston Road, St Peters Street (A1144), Bascule Bridge, Belvedere Road, Horn Hill, Waveney Drive, Durban Road, and Kimberley Road.

Anyone with information about this attack, who believes they recognise the person pictured in the E-fit, or who was in any of the roads stated above during the relevant times and witnessed anything suspicious, is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting reference 78398/17, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Yes I drove past this and watched rubber-neckers almost cause another incident.
I would not say the road there was treacherous ! yes there was a layer of snow/slush icy patches but if you drove in accordance to the condition there was no issue. the BMW left the road and skidded into and along the center barrier before reentering the road area and then OFF again.

(I recognised the car as one which "flies past me" on that part of the road just about every morning I go to work. today I was a little late as my grandson who had stayed over with us wanted lots of kisses and hugs before I left for work.
The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage ourselves.

Sadly, another report of a telephone scam....
Suffolk Constabulary
Image
From an email received at 13:22 today

Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant to a telephone scam urging victims to transfer money out of their bank accounts.

It follows an incident where a woman in her 60s from Southwold was targeted and had in excess of £200,000 worth of savings taken fraudulently.

Victims are contacted by someone purporting to be from the fraud department associated to their bank and makes claims that their account/s are being targeted by rouge [sic] bank employees. They also claim that such ‘rogue employees’ are currently being internally investigated, but to safeguard the victims money they need to transfer their savings out of their account into an apparent 'safe' account/s'.

The fraudulent callers will apply a time pressure and the need to supposedly keep secret the transfers out of the account. The victim is either asked to make instant transfers online or to go to their local branch to carry out the necessary transfers. During the phone call the victim is guided on the mobile phone what they should and should not say to others especially bank staff.

DC Joanne Smith from Safeguarding and Investigations said: "The fraudulent caller will sound very convincing, and claims to know the banks procedures and even information about the victims account to gain their trust. The fraudulent caller may also build the trust over a couple of days before asking to make the transfers as well as providing genuine telephone numbers and passwords that will correspond to the legitimate bank / building society. Some fraudsters have the ability to mask their telephone number so what appears on the caller display conveys the impression it is a genuine phone number."

Residents should remember the following:
Your bank or the police will never ask you to withdraw money or purchase items
Your bank or the police will never ask for your PIN, bank card or bank account details over the phone – never give these details out
If the victim has any concerns about what the caller is asking then they should end the call and report to their branch and or fraud department.
Never download any software suggested by caller.
Do not rush into complying to the scammers demands / requests. If you receive such a call leave the landline for at least five minutes to make an outside call. Fraudsters will keep the line open and have been known to play ring tones, hold music and a recorded message down the phone so the victim believes they are making a call to a legitimate number.

Use a friend or neighbour’s telephone instead.

Friends, family, carers and neighbours are asked to spread the word to ensure everyone is aware of this scam and what they should do
