Re: Useless Information!
In Shakespeare’s time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. That’s where the phrase, “goodnight, sleep tight” came from.
If it were not for Thomas Edison, we would all be watching television in the dark.

US scientists calculated that Santa would have to visit 822 homes a second to deliver all the world's presents on Christmas Eve, travelling at 650 miles a second.

'Let's pull a bangs of expectation' doesn't have quite the right ring to it somehow, Mel.Mel wrote:Christmas Crackers were originally called 'bangs of expectation'.

Today is unique in the UK
Today is the only day that every child was born in the 21st century and every adult was born in the 20th century

IT is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament. No one is sure what the punishment for this particular offence would be.

Re: “It is illegal to die in Parliament? Answer: No.”Dave wrote:IT is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament. No one is sure what the punishment for this particular offence would be.
“The issue of dying in Parliament appears to arise from the idea that anyone who dies in a Royal Palace is eligible for a state funeral. We have not been able to trace any such law, and neither have the House of Commons authorities. Under the Coroners Act 1988, the coroner of the Queen's household has jurisdiction over an inquest into a death in a royal palace. However, state funerals are not mandatory.”
(Taken from an informal document which has been produced by the Law Commission’s Statute Law Repeals team to answer some of the queries that they regularly receive about alleged old laws.)
Sorry, Dave!
