With the local temperature today having exceeded 29 degrees C, I notice that the humidity overnight is forecast to be 99% so looks like it could be an uncomfortable one in bed.The most recent Covid-19 statistics available for East Suffolk to April 17th 2024 are here - eastsuffolkcovid19.uk

Re: Lowestoft Weather
With thunderstorms galore in the Yorkshire and Lancashire areas last night, perhaps we'll get the tail end of the storms at the weekend.

Just three hours later and the forecast has now changed to heavy rain for Friday evening and night, with rain through until 10 am Saturday.
This is the severe weather warning currently in place:

Re: Lowestoft Weather
With the ground being dry and hard the rain at first did not soak in so resulted in a little surface flooding which then as the rain continued became a little bit of an issue (my workshop had 1/2 inch of water over the lower base area)
yet the drainage ditch was barely 3/4 full !
Found out that the roof leaks as well (due to the change of temperature extremes)
Oh well got a weekend OFF so no need to think about work or problems there....

The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage ourselves.

Re: Lowestoft Weather
Well we have just made it into November with daytime temperatures still reaching double figures. However, it looks like we are going to have to endure single figure temperatures from tomorrow with 'real feel' daytime temperatures possibly as low as 3º C in the coming week. At least we look like getting some dry and sunny spells into the bargain.

Re: Lowestoft Weather
I have always wondered whether - at these types of low temperatures - it is worth hanging clothes out on the line to dry? I know many people who hang them out even in middle of winter, and indeed when I was growing up I often had to go and bring in the washing from a frozen line! Is it worth hanging out, or is it better to use the tumble dryer?

Re: Lowestoft Weather
Last week I hung out some towels on a day when temperatures were probably about 12/13ºC. I admit it was around lunchtime when I did so and they were still quite damp when I went out to bring them in about 5-pm. Maybe if I had washed them and put them out earlier they may have dried OK. They ended up on radiators to dry although it wasn't on at the time but the couple of hours they were on the following morning was sufficient to dry them. I will now start to use the tumble dryer or use the airer to dry the items that can't be tumble dried.amansin wrote:I have always wondered whether - at these types of low temperatures - it is worth hanging clothes out on the line to dry? Re: Lowestoft Weather
I was listening to my car radio a couple of weekends back and the local radio presenter informed me that the temperatures were going to be in double figures again that weekend and followed it with "do you think winter is ever going to start?" I couldn't stop myself saying out loud "no you idiot, it was still summer 4 weeks ago!" What is it with these media people who now seem to assume we only have two season?
It's grim up North...

Re: Lowestoft Weather
Another Bank Holiday weekend and it looks like the weather could take a turn for the worse with torrential downpours and significant amounts of rainfall.
Interestingly enough, the hourly Met Office forecasts (at present) don't show anything significant for here, but the 'Yellow' warnings seem to say differently.

Due to temperatures reaching freezing point, Greater Anglia has decided to cancel all trains in and out of Lowestoft for the next 2 days. Not often I'm left speechless..
