I can't oblige Frankie. I built Oyster blue water sailing yachts.

Nice looking yachts BB, sorry thought you built them for Broomes at Brundal.

No, I worked for a company in Hoveton who built for Oyster marine. Since I retired Oyster have taken that company over so if I'd still been there I would now have been working for Oyster.

This bulk carrier 'Helen' has got the skinniest bridge housing I have ever seen on a ship...

It is one of those small ships with a hydraulic bridge than can be lowered to get under bridges if I'm not mistaken. Probably designed for canals.

It still wouldn't manage the Leeds-Liverpool canal though. :D

It would certainly have trouble with British canals, except maybe the Caledonian. :D

I think they are a Dutch design so they can navigate the canals and sail under bridges by lowering the bridge.

I have a question for anybody "in the know". There is a radio mast located about 12 miles east of Leiston which is mounted on a base similar to the bases which offshore wind turbines are mounted on. On the Marine Traffic site it is listed as a navigation aid, does anybody know what aid it gives to navigation?

EAOW1BAIS

Would be the EAST ANGLIA OFFSHORE WIND 1B (not sure but would denote type of signal) AIS is Automatic Identification System

It would signal the area of the wind farm which is located just off there.

1B could be 1 Bravo (Bravo being the position indicator listing on a chart) I will look when I'm on a ship tomorrow for a greater degree of info.
The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage ourselves.

I believe it's an AIS beacon for EAOW Phase 1.

I think has been used as a common referencing point and datum for all the various surveys which have had to be undertaken as part of the planning process for the windfarm.
I guess there's not much else out there to sight onto as reference points.

Phases location plan here --> http://www.eastangliawind.com/developing-the-zone.aspx

I think Phase 1 is still being touted for 2018 but that seems a little ambitious.
I went into a shop and said, "Can someone sell me a kettle." The bloke said "Kenwood" I said, "Where is he?"
