Saw this gravestone of Richard Pottle in the graveyard of St. John's, Reedham. He was was born in 1732 and lived for a 108 years. That was certainly a good age to make in those days 8-)

The stone is in good condition for it's age, Mel, I've seen some relatively new ones in a far worse state.
If it were not for Thomas Edison, we would all be watching television in the dark.

I know what you mean Dave. I suppose it is down to how sheltered from the weather you are when you are laid to rest to how long your stone lasts.

Maybe also the type of stone that was used at the time?

This is Hopton Church taken with a 35mm film camera in December 1986, the year my parents moved to Hopton.

One evening while staying with them I was passing the church and it was floodlit, so I got my camera and tripod out, and used the auto exposure that was particularly good in low light on that model (Olympus OM2n).

I had some copies made for my parents and some of their friends, and an enlargement which they gave to the vicar of the day. I understand he displayed it in the vicarage. I wonder if it's still there...

Great picture PeteB. And we have to remember in those days you had to wait until the film was developed so didn't really know how successful it was until you had it developed and printed.

Quite right. I used to take quite a few and hope at least one was usable.

That was the best camera I ever had for low light auto exposure though - I got some amazing firework pics from a hotel roof in Spain on the last day of a Fiesta week too. I took at least a dozen, and they were all great (I can say that with modesty - the camera was the clever one!). I had three very big enlargements framed and for many years they lived on my study wall (in a previous home) . I'll share some of those on an appropriate thread at some point.

Picture was taken at St. Benet's, Beccles.

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

I wonder why it is a different day every year? We celebrate his birth the same day every year without any trouble.

I'm sure you'll find there is plenty written about it on the internet, frankie. Might be worth you looking it up.

Of course if it was on the same day every year, we would be having Good Friday and Easter Sunday being called Good Tuesday and Easter Thursday and so on....! :D

The answer is very complicated as you would expect of religion.

"By 1583 A.D. the table for determining the Ecclesiastical Full Moon dates was permanently established and has been used ever since to determine the date of Easter. Thus, according to the Ecclesiastical tables, the Paschal Full Moon is the first Ecclesiastical Full Moon date after March 20 (which happened to be the vernal equinox date in 325 A.D.). Thus, in Western Christianity, Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the Paschal Full Moon."
