Photography Chat!

Though I would start this topic with this news:

Getty makes 35 million photos free to use

Getty Images, the world's largest photo agency, has made vast swathes of its library free to use, in an effort to combat piracy.

Millions of images - including famous shots of Marilyn Monroe and Barack Obama - will now be available without cost to blogs and social media sites.

The photos will be "framed" with a code that links back to Getty's website.

Getty said it had made the move after realising thousands of its images were being used without attribution.

"Our content was everywhere already," said Craig Peters, a business development executive at the Seattle-based company.

"If you want to get a Getty image today, you can find it without a watermark very simply," he added.

"The way you do that is you go to one of our customer sites and you right-click. Or you go to Google Image search or Bing Image Search and you get it there. And that's what's happening."

The company says it is making up to 35 million photos available through the new "embed tool", and images can also be shared on social media sites Twitter and Tumblr.

That story just shows how hard it is to police the Internet...looks like Getty Images has thrown in the towel.

For a fair number of images, yes. According to Wiki they have 80 million 'stock' images.

And Wiki was updated with that info quickly as well. Look under "Controversial practices to enforce copyright" in the above link.

Saw this Press article which you might find interesting:

Shivering squirrel picture taken in a Suffolk park wins British boy, 15, international photo prize

“A 15-year-old British boy has beaten off professional photographers from across the world to win an international photo prize.
Kyle Moore, from Suffolk, took first place in the Celebrating Nature competition run by the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers. The teenager, who took up photography when he was 12, won with his picture of a squirrel shivering in the snow. 'The image was taken in my local town park on a snowy winter's morning,' he said.”

You're welcome! Glad you liked them . . . wonder how long the photographer spent waiting for that "Tina Turner" moment! :)
