Films

Just watched a film called "Gravity" starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
Really enjoyed the film and it had some really tense moments, well worth watching if you get the time!

We watched it on Saturday and enjoyed it. I wouldn't class it in the same category of science fiction films like Star Wars which really are fiction and 'out of this world' and unbelievable. This film is set around the Shuttle and International Space Station so is more realistic.

I expected it to be boring but watched it as I love space films and fancy Sandra Bullock but is was very enjoyable and didn't drag at all in spite of there only being two main characters. The effects were very believable and the space station was just like the real thing as we have seen from the three space station programmes on last week.

The movie Gravity doesn't appeal to me at all. I can't remember the last time I actually went to the movies to see a film lol. There are a few of the other Oscar movies this year that I would like to see when they come on cable.

Nothing worth watching on TV tonight so just watched an 'old' DVD - the 1991 film about Derek Bentley - 'Let Him Have It', with Christopher Eccleston playing the main role.

I remember the Derek Bentley case which proved to be very controversial at the time.

I was only about 5 at the time SB so nothing I would have remembered from the time. But it wasn't really a miscarriage of justice either, it was a total c*ck-up by the legal system of the day. I have Albert Pierrepoint's autobiography and have also read his account of it from his point of view as he was the executioner. The jury, although finding him guilty, also recommended leniency and this was the only time they carried out an execution when a jury had done that. It's so surprising that it took until 1998 until he was finally given a full posthumous pardon.

Yesterday, I watched “The Theory of Everything” - the story of Professor Stephen and Jane Hawking.
I tend to watch films in stages these days (generally, they don’t hold my interest) but had to watch this from start to finish. I found it a very moving story - at times difficult to watch - yet inspiring as to what can be achieved. Brilliant acting from Eddie Redmayne - in fact, at times I couldn’t help wondering how he physically achieved some of the things we witnessed. Felicity Jones gave a wonderful performance as Jane, his wife.
I give it a "5 out of 5-star" rating.

I would certainly concur with that Trigger, I had exactly the same sentiments.
