It is Dave - one of my favourite words. Took some thinking up that anagram and it was probably easier to solve the clue than to compile it.

I find the pronunciation is pretty straightforward Mel. I first came across the word when I was about 23 or 24 in the early 70's in my early days as a buyer. I received a purchase requisition from the nurse at the Kraft Food factory in Liverpool where I worked and I asked her what the devil it was.
