December 28th. John Bercow has been snubbed in the New Year honours - fuelling suggestions that he will become the first speaker in 230 years not to be automatically offered an honour after he stepped down last month.
The move would be seen as 'revenge' from prime minister Boris Johnson and his predecessor Theresa May over the handling of Brexit, after earlier this year media reports claimed Bercow would not receive automatic peerage.

If it were not for Thomas Edison, we would all be watching television in the dark.

December 30th. Comedian and musician Neil Innes, who collaborated with Monty Python and played with The Rutles, has died aged 75, his agent has said.
Essex-born Innes wrote music for Monty Python’s albums including Monty Python’s Previous Record and The Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchief, after becoming involved with the comedy group in the 1970s.

If it were not for Thomas Edison, we would all be watching television in the dark.

December 31st. An 8-meter (26 ft) high fire ignites accidentally next to Adelaide Oval after the 9pm New Year's Eve fireworks in Adelaide, South Australia. This comes following major controversy over the New Year's firework displays across Australia in response to ongoing bushfires.
