November 14th. Italy has declared a state of emergency in Venice after the Italian city was engulfed by 1.87m (6ft) high water levels, flooding its historic basilica and cutting power to homes.
More than 80% of the city, a UNESCO world heritage site, was under water when tides were at their highest.
Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte described the flooding as "a blow to the heart of our country".

November 15th. A federal jury convicts Roger Stone of lying to the United States Congress and tampering with a witness about his efforts to learn about the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks's release of hacked Democratic emails in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

November 16th. British photographerTerry O'Neill, whose work captured iconic images of London's Swinging Sixties, has died.
O'Neill, 81, had prostate cancer and died at home on Saturday night after a long illness, his agency said.
He photographed celebrities - including The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Elton John and the Queen - and received a CBE last month for services to photography.

November 18th Up to 200 anti-government protesters remain barricaded inside a Hong Kong university, surrounded by police, as the standoff continues for a third day.

Those who are still inside Polytechnic University (PolyU) are said to be running low on supplies.

Protesters have been inside the campus since last week, initially stopping police from entering by lighting fires and throwing petrol bombs.

Adults who leave face arrest, and some are too scared to come out.

November 20th. Jose Mourinho has been appointed Tottenham manager after the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.
Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Mourinho has signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season.
"The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me," said the 56-year-old Portuguese. "Working with these players is what has attracted me."

November 22nd. A man who strangled a British backpacker and hid her body inside a suitcase has been found guilty of murder.
Grace Millane was found buried in bushland outside Auckland, New Zealand.
A jury at the city's high court rejected claims by the 27-year-old man, who cannot be named, that she died accidentally during "rough sex".

November 26th. Rescuers from several countries are scrambling to find survivors of the earthquake which hit Albania, killing 30 people and injuring hundreds more.
Using sniffer dogs, they are sifting through rubble, 36 hours after the magnitude-6.4 tremor.

November 28th. Clive James, the Australian writer and broadcaster known around the world for his dry wit, has died at the age of 80.
Diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010, the author and critic had movingly written about his terminal illness during the final years of his life.
