Latest post of the previous page:

I’ve seen many a ‘Waterloo Sunset’, Dave.

When that song first came out, I thought the title was about them, but alas! It wasn’t. There is a stretch of coastline a mile or two north from where I lived in Liverpool from where you could enjoy stunning sunsets over Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea, and it started from Waterloo, which was the next district from where I lived. It was nicknamed ‘Sunset Strip’ - nothing to do with the number 77, either. :D

There are so many songs to choose from by the Carpenters I just shut my eyes and clicked. They don't make songs like this any more or singers come to that.

I saw Dusty Springfield on the telly Saturday night singing 'Some of Your Loving' and wondered why we don't hear her records played more often. To compensate for that here she is singing that very song along with another golden oldie when she sang with her brothers as The Springfields.

My favourite of the Springfields is 'Island of Dreams' My friend and I used to play it over and over again.

There are so many songs from that era Dave that fall into the category of this topic. I've been listening to a lot of Matt Monro songs recently.

Here's one of my all-time favourites of his. I have the single which I bought when it was first released back in.......1964!

This song has been covered by many singers but this lady, Shona McGarty, aka Whitney from Eastenders, is singing it at The Royal Legion Festival of Remembrance 2022 in the Royal Albert Hall. I've heard her sing before but she excels herself in this video.

Thanks for that one, Dave. I really enjoyed it.
I did watch the program when it was on last month but didn't know who she was as I don't watch Eastenders much these days.

I found a list of fifty covers of 'Hallelujah', boatbuilder, and it didn't even mention Andrea Bocelli or Willie Nelson, that's right, Willie Nelson. I'm sure there are many more but if you watch the video on YouTube and read Karl Brookes' comments he sums up what helps makes the whole video special. The star of the show being Shona of course.
