NEW: Common Words
Something a little different to get the brain cells working. Everybody is welcome to submit a set of five pairs providing the previous ones have been resolved by somebody and confirmed correct by the originator.
Get your thinking caps on and determine what word can follow the first word and precede the second word in each of the following five pairs:
An example is: Steam ___IRON___Age
1. Jail______Seed
2. Carpet______Bean
3. Paper______Board
4. Table_____ Ears
5. Water______Bearing

The first four are what I have Dave, but the fifth, although fully acceptable is different from my 'Wheel'

Re: NEW: Common Words
My number four was 'Sugar', that cancels out 'Wheel'. All correct, over to you.

Re: NEW: Common Words
I have different ones for the first two Dave, though I guess there will often be alternatives.
1. Glass
2. Spot
I have some more lined up but over to you (or someone else).

Re: NEW: Common Words
All correct, boatbuilder, I'll have to do some in Swahili next time, make it a bit tougher. If only I spoke Swahili.

Re: NEW: Common Words
I've been stuck on these five, boatbuilder, but as nobody else has had a go here are my, very dodgy, answers. Two and four are the dodgiest and five is an answer from before, although you might be being crafty there. I bet I'll kick myself when you reveal the answers.

2. Tank

Re: NEW: Common Words
These are my five Dave:
1. Music
2. Tank
3. Bread
4. Over
5. Top
Of course there's nothing to say that none of the pairs can have multiple answers. I have 11 more sets of 5 ready for posting. The 'top' was already in my compiled list before your previous one but as one of the pair of words was different, I saw no reason not to include it.
It's disappointing that nobody else seems to want to participate. It's good 'brain exercise'. I got the idea from one of the puzzles that appears in 'The Times' at the weekends. I just used one of their pairs from last weekend as my example in the first post.
