January 16th. A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a drive-by shooting outside a London church left a girl, seven, seriously injured. A 12-year-old girl and four women were also injured at St Aloysius Church in Euston when shots were fired from a moving vehicle on Saturday afternoon.

January 18th. David Crosby, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist who helped shape the sound of Sixties rock and beyond, died Wednesday night at the age of 81. A source close to Crosby confirmed the musician’s death to Rolling Stone, but did not disclose a cause.

January 20th. Hundreds of swimmers attending a surf carnival have been suddenly cleared from the water after a dolphin was mauled to death by a pack of bull sharks. The dolphin beached itself on Shelly Beach at around 8am on Saturday morning as hundreds gathered at the beach in Sydney's north for the Manly Surf Carnival.

January 21st : A PhD student looking into what scientists regard as the most important space rock ever to be recovered in the UK has said: "It's pretty exciting". Niamh Topping, 23, is in her first year at the University of Leicester, studying water and rock reactions in the early solar system. The Winchcombe meteorite crashed on the Gloucestershire town of Winchcombe in 2021.

January 24th. Emergency responders in the Houston area say they are responding to reports of damage and stranded motorists after a possible tornado moved through the area Tuesday. Structural damage from a tornado in Pasadena, about 15 miles southeast of Houston, is “catastrophic,” according to the local police chief.

Sir Keir Starmer was visiting the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, a day after nearby resident Sir Rod Stewart offered to pay for medical scans to help people get treatment more quickly.

January 30th. At least 59 people have been killed by a suicide bombing that apparently targeted policemen praying in a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan. The mosque is within the tightly guarded police headquarters area.
"Terrorists want to create fear by targeting those who perform the duty of defending Pakistan," Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said.
