Latest post of the previous page:

Yes, it is a shame it's all been marred by the violence in Marseille, Mel. One tends to forget about it whilst watching the match as it is only the minority who are guilty.

Unfortunately the England goalkeeper seemed to have put his lead boots on towards the end of the game and must take some of the blame for the equalising goal as he seemed rooted to the spot. Maybe he (and some of the others) became too complacent in the added-on time. Seems to happen a lot in games these days.

I see Celtic are playing a UEFA Champions' League qualifying match tonight against a team called 'Lincoln Red Imps'. I must admit I've never heard of them until tonight and then discovered they are a team from the Gibraltar Premier League who all use the same stadium. I suppose there's not enough room for more than one stadium on 'The Rock' :D

I hadn't heard of them until I read about them in the paper Boatbuilder...and I have just read they've beaten Celtic 1-0 :) Not a good start for Brendan Rogers.

It is looking like Sam Allardyce is going to be the new England football manager. Out of all the people mentioned for the job I am pleased the FA have gone for Sam; although I wouldn't have been to disappointed if it had been Steve Bruce. Let us hope Sam can instil a bit of pride and passion into the players, they have got the skills in my opinion to be world class but not the grit and determination that a world class team needs.

I see Celtic managed to turn around last week's defeat by Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar and win 3-0 (3-1 on aggregate). Good old Brendan!

Good to see Johanna Konta has beaten Venus Williams to win her first WTA Tour title. Well done that girl!

JT McNamara: Jockey paralysed in 2013 Cheltenham fall dies

Irish jockey JT McNamara, who was paralysed after a fall at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival, has died aged 41.

McNamara, a father-of-three, was a leading amateur rider before being seriously injured.

He fractured two vertebrae in his neck after being thrown from his horse Galaxy Rock in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup on 14 March, 2013.

He moved back home to Limerick in 2014 after being discharged from the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre.

Adrian McGoldrick, senior medical officer for the Irish Turf Club, said: "I've just spoken to his wife Caroline and I can confirm JT passed away peacefully during the night."

McNamara rode four winners at the Cheltenham Festival, including guiding Teaforthree to victory in the 2012 National Hunt Chase.

He won the same race in 2002 on Rith Dubh, was successful in the Cross-Country Chase with Spot Thedifference three years later and won the 2007 Fox Hunter Chase on Drombeag.

I've always had a healthy scepticism of sport but do you think it is time that drugs were allowed and simply classed as another form of technological advance which all can use? After all, if a pole vaulter from the 50's came along to compete with his old wooden pole he wouldn't stand a chance against the new hi-tech carbon fibre poles which "fling" the vaulter over the bar and allow them to get a few feet higher. We are never going to stop the crafty taking of illegal substances so why not give in and let Pfizer et all sponsor the events.
It's grim up North...

But that wouldn't be fair to those genuine sportsmen and women who don't want to abuse their bodies with potentially lethal substances. I know what you mean when you mention the example of the 'poles' but everyone can make use of that technology without abusing their bodies.

Apart from maybe the pole snapping and they fall a few more feet and hurt themselves a bit more than if they were that few feet lower.
