North Korea

What do we think is an appropriate solution for the North Korean problem? Here's a man who is putting the finishing touches to his nuclear weapons with previous threats that he will nuke anybody he doesn't like. Should he be left alone to complete his nuclear testing or should some action be taken and if so by whom and what form should it take?

My understanding is that he has loads of missiles pointing at South Korea and the minute anybody attacks him they go off killing thousands of people, making it very difficult for the Americans normal style of attack using missiles from ships at sea.

I wonder if assassinating him and his family is the safest bet? The whole country seems to be scared of him.

I sometimes wonder about the alternative point of view. Perhaps, it is 'because' of the fear of war from America that North Korea is trying to defend themselves. If America backed down from the line of military action, would North Korea consider doing the same? And you could say the same about all of the conflicts in the world that America is involved with; I believe there are over 20 at present time. In my view, much is made of other countries actions, but in reality the moves are being made in order to prop up the military industry - the Carlisle group is a prime example of this. It doesn't matter who wins or loses in a war environment, the end-winner will always be the private security companies who provide security afterwards. It's happened time and time again, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Libya.

I think the Chinese should have a quiet word in his ear as if it wasn't for the Chinese Kim Jong - Un would be living in a shack. And on the subject of North Korea's latest missile failure, I would hate to be the poor General who gets the blame as the last General who got up Kim Jong's nose was executed with an artillery round!!

Prior to the aircraft carrier group steaming up towards him I don't think there was any great US threat for him to be concerned by. On the other hand he's been threatening those he doesn't like for years and his father before him. I can sympathise with your view in some of the other countries you mentioned where the US invade to protect their interests but North Korea is a different kettle of fish I believe.

Well we seem to have two 'hot heads' involved here one in NK and the other in the US and probably both as bad as each other, to a certain extent. I do wonder if the 'missiles' we saw on the TV yesterday in NK are just for show and are merely 'models' of what they wish they had? Let's face it, they have had numerous missile failures and as Mel stated I would hate to be the General responsible for yesterday's failure - especially being on the day it was. It has reminiscences of a James Bond movie.

There is speculation in the press that the missile failure was due to US intervention either by electro magnetic means or ensuring the the specialised electronics required for navigation were nobbled before they were illegally "smuggled" into the country. Apparently these were both methods favoured by Obama in preference to getting involved militarily.
