Member Ranks

Post by boatbuilder » Tue Jul 28, 2015 2:03 pm

I have introduced a member ranking system in recognition of the number of posts members have made on the forum.

This is only applicable to non-moderation and non-administration members as these have their own ranks.

The three levels I have introduced, together with the number of posts to achieve the ranks are shown below and the rank will automatically be displayed, on achieving the appropriate number of posts, under the member's name and avatar, if they have one:

How strange? I can see them in Chrome, Internet Explorer, on my iPhone and on my Kindle Fire. They are all .png images.

Can anyone else not see them?

I have changed the file types from .PNG to .GIF ones which are the same as the banner at the top of the page and the smilies used on the site so they should now be visible to all. Photoshop won't save .GIF's with the transparent background used in the .PNG files so there is a background colour present which I have used and which has minimal visibility in both of the background shades used in the forum.

Please let me know if you can now see them. This topic can now be posted in by all.

Thanks.

Thanks FC. I just don't understand it, especially if you are using the same browser(s) as I have tried out. I suppose it's the same as when SB has posted the odd .TIFF image on here and I can't see them, yet they are all permitted in the forum's settings.

I have also changed the file-types of the images linked to in the original post so they should now be visible.

Further to the above, I have found this chart on Wikipedia which tells you what file-types are supported by the various browsers available.

The .gif (GIF) and .png (PNG) are both supported by the vast majority of browsers so if you are having problems viewing any that I don't know what could be the trouble. I noticed that the .tiff image is not supported by Chrome, which is relevant to what I said in a previous post about a problem I had.

Hope you find it useful.

There is also some useful information about file extension and browser compatibility here:

http://www.yourhtmlsource.com/starthere ... rmats.html

This is the page (link below) where all my links were directed to for the star images in the first post. The top six are the .PNG and the bottom six are the .GIF ones.

Are you able to see any of them?
