Why This Site was Started

As many of you know, most of the members here have come from an older Lowestoft site, LowestoftOnline. We've been friends for years and have developed a friendly community that we all treasure. Unfortunately, the internet moves on and every year new applications,equipment and computer coding languages come on line. With the internet, it's not enough to find a comfortable program and stick with it; you have to move on or die in this environment and we were really afraid the old LOL would die from obsolescence. The old LowestoftOnline program is getting creaky and prone to crashing, it can't be updated by the admin and we can't offer more fun things to our members. It was also housed on a private server, with all the limitations that ensued. After a lot of discussion, Annie and I thought we'd look into creating a new site that could be updated to keep up with the times and more stable. Our goal is to keep our internet community viable and not dependent on one person or group of people. To that end, this site has more than one person who is the "keeper of the keys" so if that key man leaves or is hit by a bus, the site stays alive.

This new site is on a server that is part of a very large, very stable server farm. It automatically backs up every day, so if we make a mistake when we're digging in the bowels of the program we can recover lost data. We can update the program as it's needed and add new bells and whistles to the program to better serve our community and keep things interesting.

Annie and I have invited all of the old moderators and admin to join this site and hope to operate it with the same friendly, adult, civil atmosphere we had on LOL. We will stay with LOL as long as it is viable and our services are needed, but as people move over here, we'll be spending more and more time with this site. All members of good standing on LOL are invited to join this area and will be automatically approved.
