Perhaps must of us on here are past the school run years but lots of us have grandkids at school and opinions even if not
What do you think of the idea of longer school days (9 hours it seems) and shorter holidays?

Re: Longer hours
I think it is the teachers who should be answering that question FC.
However, it doesn't look like a starter based on this report from this afternoon:
No plans for blanket school holiday cut, says Gove source

Re: Longer hours
I think the shorter holidays would be a good idea and with shorter holidays would come more days at school for the children to further their studies.

Re: Longer hours
If they stopped messing around with the way we teach the primary school children they wouldn't need the extra hours to catch up with the european children.

Re: Longer hours
Longer school hours, shorter holidays (with a corresponding increase in work load for teachers) and less pensions as well, will just result in more teachers leaving the profession. The government is always crowing about numbers going into teaching but never about the large numbers who then quit after a few years having found it to be a far too tough and very unrewarding.
