Latest post of the previous page:

I believe the 33% reserved for hardware is unused until you operate a hardware drive etc its sat ready but doing nothing, then the other is being used
when your machine calculates through the system it will only use the available where as there is actually MORE there but the machine reserves it
If you use it all for memory the machine should calculate quicker and if you use hardware then only the required amount is allocated and the RAM is used at the best division internally.

I tend not to use the resource monitor (it uses a lot of resource) :o though your post has got me wondering about my system even though I know it is faster than if I allow Windows to control it!

I do only run the very minimum OS that i require unless I'm remotely logged onto the wife and daughters computers and then seem to run a lot of stuff which I have no interest in.
The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage ourselves.

The Resources Monitor (Perfmon.exe on the image) doesn't use very much RAM at all when I am using it as the image below shows. A lot more is used by my browser (Chrome) and the add-ons that I have in use - they account for the largest portion when combined than any other single application.

My hardware reserve is always 100MB as in the image in my previous post and never changes (apart from when I made that change to the boot settings). I am not sure why that should be. But the change certainly slowed my computer down after the reboot.

Strange.
I will investigate but as I said I know my system is quicker then if I let Windows manage it.

Update on my email problem!

Installed Windows Live Mail - which was problematical. BB kindly posted a different link to what I’d used. Tried to install it - but the one already on my PC was the latest version. Deleted the latest version and installed the previous one! Think there’s a bit of logic there - somewhere! Image

That opened a can of worms - in the past I had “Live Mail” on my machine. When I opened that email proggy - I had about 30 emails dated early 2012!!
So, I made an Executive Decision - and a) deleted Live Mail completely, and b) cancelled my subscription to the Photo Newsletter as I like to see the photos posted with the articles.
But many thanks for those who offered help to try and sort this out - it's much appreciated.
