Computer & Internet Related Problems and Tips

Post by frankiesays » Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:00 pm

Post any computer or internet related problems here, I'm sure somebody will have some good suggestions for you before you pay for help. Post any tips, short-cuts or alternate ways of doing things which you think are useful too.

Do you find that some web sites have very small print and you can't seem to find your glasses when you need them? Try holding down the Control key and tap the + once to increase the size. you can do it as many times as you need. Control and - will reduce it back a step each time. Ctrl - there are two on the bottom row of your keyboard, either will do. Plus and minus are on the same row as your numbers in the position where 11 and 12 would have been if you had them.

This does not work on some sites where the web page is actually a picture but it works for most things. Try it on here.

Adding to that Frankie, if you have a numeric pad on your keyboard, you can use the (+) or (-) signs that are on the right of that instead. The (+) key is much bigger as well.

After pressing the 'Prt Sc' button you need to open the 'Paint' program and when that is open just click on the 'Paste' icon at the top left of the screen and your screen shot will appear in the window. You then need to save that somewhere on your computer. You should choose the type of image (file type) you want to save it as (usually JPEG) in the drop-down underneath the file name in the 'Save' window. You may also want to rename the default file name that 'Paint' gives which is 'untitled'.

If your just gong to send it to another person via email (or such) then in windows Vista / 7 & 8 there is "snipping tool" which will take an image of your screen and save to your pictures in an automatic sort of mode.
Just type "snipping" into the start search box and it will be shown, select it then follow the drop downs to change what type of image you want (full screen/window/ user defined)
I find it easier then the PRTSC way but then that is just me.

I find that the best way also, Nikkai - particularly if you only need a part of the screen. The file sizes it creates are also much smaller than the Print Screen. I only gave EP that answer as it was what she asked for. The snipping tool is in the accessories folder in the program list.
