Latest post of the previous page:

FC, I don't know if you can have 'Private Browsing' switched on permanently but if you can that could possibly be the problem.

Added and further edited later: I think this may well be the answer to your problem FC:-

As I rarely use the iPhone these days for internet browsing I noticed that mine wouldn't autofill. I have just been playing around with it and I notice that when you touch the box where you enter your username to log in on a site and the 'on-screen keypad' opens, there is a line above the keypad that says 'Autofill password' and if you touch that, it then fills in the username and password. Note that the 'Autofill password' ONLY appears if you have previously entered and saved your log-in details on an earlier occasion for the site you are on. You can see which ones are saved by going into the 'Settings' then 'Safari' then 'Passwords and Autofill' then 'Saved Passwords'. By clicking on the arrow on the right of each of the listed web sites you can then see the actual log-in details saved. I assume it will be similar on the iPad.

I would seem that it doesn't fill in the details unless you actually tell it to. This may well be in case you wish to log in with another user name other than the one saved. I don't think this has always been the case with the iPhone so maybe it is something new that was added on one of the OS updates.

I’m probably the worst person to ask - as I’m not very “iPad-literate”! I’ve got the book “i Pad for Dummies” (how appropriate!) have had a quick look through possible sections - including “Troubleshooting” - but can’t see anything. It might be worth going to their site: “Apple Support Communities - Using iPad” - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipad/using_ipad - you can “search or ask a question” - probably worth asking as someone there would be able to help. If not, I’d strongly recommend, when you’re next in Norwich - going to the Apple Store in Chapelfield Mall - I’ve found them really helpful.

PS - FC: I’ve just copied your original post out (to refer to) and am going to “set up” a new site and see what I do when I ask it to “remember me”. Will report back!

UPDATE: I’ve just gone into a site that I’m registered with - logged in the usual way, tapped the “Stay logged in” button - and it goes OK. So, unfortunately, I can’t any further advice - sorry I can’t be of more help.

I don't think it will be anything to do with "stay logged in" as that is usually to do with the cookies which keep you logged in providing you don't deliberately log out, not the saving of the log-in details for subsequent log-ins. As I said I don't have an iPad but I would imagine they are very similar to the iPhone in the way they work - just bigger and without the phone facility. I think FC should check out the things I posted about in my earlier post at the bottom of the previous page (9).

Thanks BB - I could try to understand/explain things at my "lower level"! I did a search for "Cookies on iPad" - and some pages I'd rather not have seen . . . lots of Cookie recipes! :D

Did find this site: “About tech” and it has a page “How to enable or disable Cookies in the iPad’s Safari Browser” http://ipad.about.com/od/ipad_basics/ss ... ep-heading - it does explain / illustrate the process - which might helpful to FC.

Does your keypad have the autofill password text at the top?

Another scam.....

Just received two identical emails BOTH to my Hotmail address. Never opened them (the image below is from the preview pane) but looked at the Properties and the originating IP address appears to be in Italy. The link embedded in the 'Check Now' text is directed to a web address -http://inconx.com/inox/php- registered in Fort Lauderdale Texas - which displayed in the status bar when the 'Check Now' text was hovered over. Blacklist checks on both the originating IP and this web address show up as 'very bad'.

Both emails now deleted.

My Apple account is not, nor ever has been, connected with my Hotmail address.

I had this update today:

Microsoft patches 'critical' Windows bug

Microsoft has released an emergency patch for a "critical" bug present on almost every version of Windows.
Microsoft said the vulnerability was so severe that it needed to release a patch outside its usual monthly security update.
Security researchers from Google were among the experts who helped uncover the loophole.
The vulnerability was found in the parts of Windows that let the software handle some types of fonts.
If exploited, the bug would let attackers take over a target machine and run their own software on it.

Hackers target internet address bug to disrupt sites

Hackers are exploiting a serious flaw in the internet's architecture, according to a security firm.
The bug targets systems which convert URLs into IP addresses.
Exploiting it could threaten the smooth running of internet services as it allows hackers to launch denial-of-service attacks on websites, potentially forcing them offline.
Regular internet users are unlikely to be severely affected, however.
Bind is the name of a variety of Domain Name System (DNS) software used on the majority of internet servers.
The recently identified bug allows attackers to crash the software, therefore taking the DNS service offline and preventing URLs, for example, from working.
A patch for the flaw is already available, but many systems are yet to be updated.
The Internet Systems Consortium (ISC), which develops Bind, said in a tweet that the vulnerability was "particularly critical" and "easily exploited".

Mac attack: OS X Yosemite hit by zero-day vulnerability

There's some bad news for Mac owners today, as it has emerged that the latest version of OS X (Yosemite) has a major zero-day vulnerability which is being exploited to access computers (with no need for any system password) and directly install malware on machines.
This is another prime example of how with Apple's computers becoming more popular, malware authors are looking to exploit unwary users who still believe OS X is a safe haven never troubled by viruses and other similar nastiness
