I've seen Steve Foster a few times over the last 2-3 years and been happy with the result. Visited him last Monday, as it happens.

He also has a practice in Gorleston (Bells Road) and I tend to go to the one with the most convenient appointment available rather than the nearest.

I use to get bad back pains , the shooting kind that in the end I had to go to the dry. They referred me to the hospital physio . It turned out to be sciatica, the nerves between the bones and muscles . They put me on a few sessions of tens machine. It worked wonders . I bought my own one from boots no more than £25-30 and use it at home. The best thing I've even used and have even borrowed it out to friend who had been suffering and writhing two days see the change dramatically. Hope that helps ×××

I hold the view that its throwing money away visiting an Osteopath for sciatica. The only long term relief is to grit your teeth and work your way through it. Before any body jump on me I do know just how painful it can be.

Even then, what you think is sciatica may not always be that. What our doctor initially diagnosed as sciatica in my wife some 18 years ago turned out to be something else more serious and which led to her becoming disabled. Admittedly what my wife was diagnosed with - a 'Dural arteriovenous spinal fistula' - was something fairly rare, as the specialist who did her procedure at Addenbrookes told us. I think he said he had only ever seen one other case himself at that time.

There is plenty of medical advice that supports my thoughts on this subject of sciatica and I am not suggesting it for any other condition bb.
it was of coarse most unfortunate that your wife was misslead into thinking that she had sciatica I hope that it did not mar her treatment.

I wasn't disputing your comments, Aussie. I was merely making the point that what might have all the symptoms of sciatica might not be sciatica. As far as the treatment at the time was concerned, the medical staff at Addenbrookes couldn't be faulted. However, what happened in the days immediately before arriving there is something we have had many thoughts about over the years and is something that couldn't be discussed on an open forum such as this. Let's just say that we are not certain what really caused the end problem in the first place. It's a long story and every time somebody mentions sciatica it makes us think again about the circumstances that surrounded that episode in our lives..

Well I will dispute your comments Aussie as siatica if not treated can become completely depilitating and if you can get treatment to stop that happening it is just silly not to A working person can be off work for weeks and as BB says it could be anything else until properly diagnosed So although in the old days you maybe had to grit your teeth and carry on with the risk of doing even more damage (I believe you also had to have a drink of whiskey to pull teeth ) thankfully those days have gone
I spent just over a £100 to become pain free, I could barely move before I saw the physio...... many people spend that on a night out or a family meal out it was money WELL spent
Another thing that usually sorts itself out is frozen shoulder it has a shelf life of roughly 2 years why would you grit your teeth for 2 years if someone had the knowledge and ability to free you from that pain and disability in a few sessions ?

I've had siatica several times before I retired and since, if you are off work for a time with back pain here you get sent for a test to see wether it's the real thing or lead swinging .The test is painful to say the least. The Doctor tapped my left leg with a medical Hammer in various places, I was laid down and could n't see what she was doing .She tapped my big toe and I screemed with pain ,standard for finding the problem apprently.

Many years ago in Lowestoft there was a dentist who didn't give his patients whiskey but always made sure he had a drink of whiskey before pulling teeth or doing any other dental treatment
