The United States Presidential Election - 2016

Post by boatbuilder » Mon Oct 10, 2016 10:51 pm

With about 30 days to go before the Americans go to the polls, this must surely have been one of the most controversial and almost certainly 'dirtiest' campaigns ever.

I know some of you love to debate/discuss such topical issues, so what are your thoughts on the matter and who do you think will be elected to the White House as the 45th President of the United States?

I have also attached a poll where you can post TWO choices from the five selections.

Make ONE choice from options ONE to THREE in answer to this question: Who do you think will be elected as President?

and

Make ONE choice from the options FOUR to SEVEN in answer to this question: Irrespective of who you chose above, who do you think will make a GOOD PRESIDENT?

Please ensure you make both your choices before clicking on 'SUBMIT VOTE'. You don't have to contribute to the topic if you don't wish to, but you can still ' vote' in the poll.

The Poll will close on 8th November at the time shown.

These people are not much younger than me -why do they want the job? I am contrarian and counter-intuitive by nature; it's who I am -- but even I cannot construct some defence for this dreadful scoundrel, who dodged the draft several times, to be the hero of the locker-room and sports-field, while others died on the battle-field. No principles -just a desire to start making money; a rascal who has said he despises his fellow Republican, McCain, for not being a war hero, as he spent years as a POW; a dirty old man who has disgusting attitudes to-wards women ''them'', and in a desperate attempt to justify himself, has sought to tarnish all men. And a bad businessman and tax-dodger. No, it doesn't matter what Hillary is like, the decision makes itself.

There is an unease sweeping the States, but I suspect it is mainly down to the highly polarised and untruthful media.

There are perfectly good and respectable reasons for supporting the conservative cause; but they have not been heard, for many years. There is a slightly pathetic hankering after some lost golden age, which is always handy for demagogues of any stripe.

I could have summed up my thoughts in four letters.
Consistency is the hob-goblin of the small mind

Maybe it is time for some centre ground politicians in the US to form a new party.

I just find it so very hard to believe that a country so big, so inventive and so intelligent can end up with having two candidates like Trump and Clinton as the best they have got to lead their country.

It will certainly leave the world a scarier place when either get in...especially so Trump, what a despicable man.

It just baffles me that in a country with so many residents the best candidates they can come up with is those two. The polls are saying Hilary Clinton has the edge but we all know about polls don't we. Trump annoys me by the way he has to say everything twice, apart from all the other annoying habits that is - lying for example.

FC I have just checked the poll and it's still active. If you can't vote now you must have already done so - maybe when it was originally set up.

It's certainly not closed - it will automatically close at 9-51 tonight which is how it was set to do so. Sounds like another iPad thing FC.

Here is a screenshot of that part of the page taken just now from my iPhone showing the poll as still open. (logged in as the dummy user 'local' which I use for such things as this)

Also, are there any X's alongside any of the numbers of votes cast on your poll result?

The question you haven't answered is "are there any x's alongside the post numbers on the right? " I see you use the Subsilver2 theme and the x's if there indicate what you (or the spirit) voted for when using that theme.

I see somebody had voted since earlier on today, although it is now after 9-51 pm so the voting is now closed and the submit button will have now disappeared.
