Somebody must have collected the tax and paid it to the government.
But that's long gone, this is the present. We should only pay tax on the same money once, just put up the rate and abolish VAT, simples.

I would prefer to pay VAT, where applicable, and have the choice of where I want to spend my money, rather than have it taken off me before I even see it, simple as that.

I am with you BB. It would also make it a lot harder to avoid paying.
I before E except after C - That's weird

So what you are saying is that you suspect that the income tax rate would go up by a greater value than the average VAT you already pay?

Whatever it went up to, it still wouldn't catch the tax dodgers.

Then I don't understand the point you are making above?

My view, rather simplistically.
Capitalists want income tax to stay the same or lower, as they want to keep their income as much as possible.
Socialists want income tax raised, as generally most socialists are on a low wage and therefore it wouldn't affect them as much.
Facists don't care, as the rules don't apply to them anyway.

That's the problem with simplifying things, makes things too complicated! I'm a capitalist as I want to make as much money as I can, but at the same time I have socialist tendencies as I wish to use that money to help others. As for fascist - any kind of dictatorial outlook is a selfish personality, which is the opposite to my own... I hope!
