Posting URL Links so they Open in a New Tab

Post by boatbuilder » Thu Sep 07, 2017 10:21 pm

I sometimes find it a nuisance when clicking on links that they open in the same tab as the one you are using to navigate the forum. This means that when you have finished looking at the linked web page, you then have to click the back arrow on your browser to return to the page on the forum you were reading. It can be even more of a nuisance if you happened to have also followed further links on the page you went to and then you have to click on the back arrow more than once for you to get back to the forum page you were on. Of course you can right-click on the link and select the option of how you want to open the link ...... that is if you can remember to do it.

So the forum does this for you, I have now added a further two Bulletin Board Codes to the posting page that allow for the posting of links so that they automatically open in a New tab. Each code has a slightly different function as explained below:

The two codes are highlighted here in this first image:

This next image shows each code as it will appear in your post as though you were going to post a link to this forum.

In the top one you insert the URL you wish to link to between the two sets of code. This will display on the posted page as follows:

https://mylowestoft.com

Try clicking the above and it will open the forum's index page in a new tab.

In the bottom one you insert the URL you wish to link to immediately after the equals '=' sign in the first part of the code, and before the closing square bracket ']' and between the middle two brackets '][' you can enter the text of your choice. What was used in this case will display on the posted page as follows:

Click this Link

Try clicking the above and it will open the forum's index page once again in another new tab.

edit 12/12/2017: PLEASE NOTE: with the latter of the above, the text used where I have used the words 'Click this Link' can only contain letters, numbers, commas, full stops and hyphens. Other symbols such as brackets, ampersands '&' and obliques, etc., or other punctuation marks won't work.

Hopefully you will find these codes of use, and your feedback, by selecting a choice at the top of this page, would be appreciated..
