Two postcards from eBay of Somerleyton Village, taken c1910. They look like they are the same part of the village taken from different directions.

'The first Suffolk Hotel on the corner of London Road North and Beven Street. Rebuilt in 1873', comes from John Boundy/Pinterest. 'The demolition of St Luke's, formally The Empire Hotel in the 50's' comes from John again.

First we have 'Mutford Lock and The Wherry Hotel, Oulton Broad, 1969' from Russell Walker. Next is 'The Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad. C1950’s' from eBay.

 Does anybody know why it is called 'Mutford Lock', when it's nowhere near Mutford, which is about 3 miles or so away?

'It was at about this time, when Lowestoft harbour was being built and Lake Lothing was opened to the sea, that the lock was built at Mutford Bridge'. This quote comes from the Eastern Daily Press, boatbuilder, I guess the lock was named after the bridge.

:D Fair enough Dave, but it still means the bridge was about 3-miles from Mutford itself.

'The Harbour Lowestoft' comes from eBid, no date though. From eBay comes 'Tonning Street, early 1900’s'.

Thanks to Russell Walker/Facebook for the first photo and eBay for the second.

1/ 'Lovely Kodachrome of the Sail Loft, Kessingland, built from a wooden construction and bay window with a brick base. Could be behind Church Road but if anyone knows where this was located in Kessingland, please comment. Photo was taken in the 1950s and credit to the late Hardwicke Knight (1911-2008)'.

2/ 'Elevated view of Bridge Road, Oulton Broad, looking south from Mutford Lock, c1920.'

They are the same building, but they are being referred to as different names - 'Sail Loft' and 'Timber House'.

You're right, boatbuilder, Russell must have been half asleep when he typed that information. Come to think of it, I must have been as well as I didn't notice the mistake. :D I'll see if I can find them again on Facebook tomorrow in case I copied the wrong information.

Either that, or one of the descriptions should have had a different picture, Dave.

Russell posted the 'Timber House' photo first, boatbuilder, and someone pointed out that it was the 'Sail Loft'. He then posted another photo with the correct information. I've edited the post and it's all okay now.
