Latest post of the previous page:

A couple of Inns supplied by Russell Walker.

1/ A Charabanc with horses at the White Hart Inn, Lowestoft Road (corner of Station Road), Hopton. 1900s-early 1910s.

2/ Spiffing shot of The Bell Inn, Beccles Road, St. Olaves with Johnsons shop and Priory Cottage to the left. In the distance can be see the level crossing of the East Suffolk Line adjacent to St. Olaves Railway Station. Photo was taken in 1928.

Both photos are thanks to Russell Walker/Facebook combined with his usual well researched information.

1/ The double Swing Bridge and Lock Gate at Lowestoft which opened in 1830. Commercial Road to the left and trees where Station Square and London Road North will be are a part of the Grove Estate. The bridge-keeper's house in the foreground right with the Icehouse behind it. Photo was taken 1880s/early 1890s at a guess.
'First bridge was a double swing bridge and originally opened with tidal flood gates that gradually eroded with Teredo worm and failed, making fresh-water Lake Lothing into a salt-water estuary. There are accounts of thousands of freshwater fish dying and floating on the surface when this happened.'

2/ The Rectory (Vicarage), Stirrups Lane, Corton. 1920s/1930s at a guess. A most impressive building on all accounts, having been built in the early 1840s, and became part of Corton Caravan & Chalet Club, owned by Brian Potter. The Rectory was in-effect destroyed by a probable act of arson in March 1990. The site is now part of the Corton Wastewater Treatment Works. Note St. Bartholomew's Church tower to the right.

For comparison, Dave - the same two places as the previous post in 2019 (from Google)

I don't know if it was actually called Bridge Street as it's now called Bridge Road. No doubt somebody who lived here then can confirm.

Thanks to Russell Walker/Facebook for both photos of Corton.

1/ A fine shot looking south along The Street, Corton with the entrance to Manor Farmhouse to the extreme left, White Horse pub where the flagpole is in the foreground and Station Road to the extreme right. Pre-WWI.

2/ The splendid Victorian-built Hawthorn Lodge at 1 The Street, Corton which still stands to the present day. Mills Drive would eventually be built to the left out of shot. Photo is c.1910.

I try not to repeat anything, boatbuilder, but I'm up to 1102 images on my laptop and sometimes a 'double' sneaks in.

I'm sure they also do on Facebook Dave. At least if the odd repeat does creep in, I'm sure there won't be nearly as many repeats as on the television.

1/ 'Oulton Broad - Lock Gates' thanks to eBay.

2/ 'Edwardian postcard photo of Mutford Lock, the Lock draw bridge and the Wherry Hotel, Oulton Broad. Before the 2 road bridges in Oulton Broad, there was a draw bridge which went across Mutford Lock nearer to the Wherry Hotel. Also, what is now known as Bridge Road has previously been known as Beccles Road and Bridge Street. Photo is 1907 or just prior.' Both photo and information comes from Russell Walker/Facebook.
