Number one states 'The second South Pier Pavilion was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1956'. Number two is a little earlier, 'The first Pavilion on the South Pier, Lowestoft, built 1889-1891 which replaced the earlier 'Reading room' and was itself replaced in the mid 1950's'.

The first photo is of 'Donkey rides at Claremont Pier', you'll have to guess when it was taken unfortunately. The second one is 'Punch & Judy Show, 1949', as it was taken in 1949 there may be a few MyLowestoft members in the audience. :D

Lowestoft's Esplanade in about 1910. The postcard-writer said: 'The weather has been glorious, and we are getting so brown.'

Just to prove that not everything on the beach wears a costume we have a 'Whale washed up on Lowestoft beach'.
L100 Whale washed up on Lowestoft beach..jpg
This is a postcard on sale on eBay and with it comes this information.
'This is an antique, colour postcard of Lowestoft Beach, Suffolk. The postcard has been used and has a stamped post mark for Ipswich 1904 (7.45am) over the mid green half penny postage stamp. The postcard has a view of Lowestoft Beach with the promenade behind. There are beach huts / wagons (Shepherd Huts) in the water, with deckchairs, people in and out of the water and a boat.'
