Lowestoft Beach, Piers & Esplanade.

In this forum you can post pictures of Lowestoft in days gone by.
Note: If you post images which are not your own, it is possible that a copyright on those images may exist and a statement regarding this will appear on each topic in this forum under the guise of 'Forum Rules', should anybody decide to claim the copyright of any image displayed.
However, please feel free to post such images and we'll cross that bridge if and when it happens - like our 3rd crossing ;)

1/ 'South Beach at Lowestoft including Bathing Machines. Note no Reading Room and Bandstand on the South Pier in the distance as they both burnt down in 1885. The replacement Pavilion / Reading Room wasn't built until 1889-91. Photo is c.1887.'

'The beach, Kessingland' is an eBay photo. Thanks to Russell Walker and Facebook for the next photo and information. 'Crisp shot from Kirkley Cliffs, South Lowestoft of the South Beach before Jubilee Promenade and the Bathing Huts were built. The Claremont Pier looks an imposing structure stretching out into the sea with Bathing Tents in use at this time. The South Pier + Pavilion in the distance and Fishing Smacks. c.1910.

1/ 'A look down memory lane... well Cliff Road, The Esplanade, Kirkley Cliffs, Putting Green, Claremont Pier, South Beach and South Pier, Lowestoft. Photo is 1956-late 1950s, I think'. Thanks to old friend Russell Walker.

1/ Attractive postcard of the South Beach, Lowestoft with the Promenade, Lowestoft Swimming Club Hut for Ladies and the Claremont Pier. The background includes the Steeple of St. John's Church and the first South Pier Pavilion. 1920s.
2/ New South Pier Pavilion, Lowestoft under construction. c. 1955.

1/ A snow-covered entrance to the South Pier, Royal Plain, Yacht Club and Yacht Basin. 1900's I reckon, perhaps the photo was taken from the bandstand.
