Lowestoft Industry.

In this forum you can post pictures of Lowestoft in days gone by.

1/ Suffolk, Lowestoft, The Quay, an eBay postcard.
2/ The engine driver pauses for the photographer at the BR Civil Engineers Depot in Commercial Road, Lowestoft inside the Sentinel Steam Shunter Class Y3 0-4-0T Departmental No. 38 (unused BR No. 68168) during 1954. The driver could be William Pye. Thanks to Russell Walker/Facebook.

1/ 'Steam Fishing Drifter LT516 'Nelson' returns to her home port. She was built in 1906 and hired by the Royal Navy during the Great War carrying 1-6pdr. Photo could just be either side of WWI.' Thanks to Russell Walker/Facebook.

1/ No date with this one, but eBay does tell us that it's 'Trawl Market Lowestoft'.
2/ 'A re-post by request. Eastern Coach Works Ltd, Eastern Way (Laundry Lane), Lowestoft. Out the front are Bristol Lodekka FLF chassis' which are each driven from Bristol to Lowestoft by a driver wearing goggles. ECW would permanently close in January 1987. Photo was taken in May 1963.' Ken Blowers ('Ken') would have liked the lower picture had he still been with us today, Dave, as I believe he once worked there.

I do remember seeing similar chassis being driven on the roads many years ago, no doubt to other coach works near where I lived.

The Eastern Coach Works photo looks like it was taken yesterday compared to the Trawl Market, boatbuilder, and yet it is 57 years old.

Two from Crispin Hook/Facebook that could be posted in 'Lowestoft People' but I tossed a coin and 'Lowestoft Industry' won.

1/ / Not too sure, it just says of the back, Brooke yachts? I think it’s the staff going to the Great War.

2/ The staff at Birdseye, i think someone has won a telly? My late grandad Edgar (Eddie) Hook is at the back in his trilby. Today would have been his birthday 19th.

1/ 'Inside the Pye TV factory, date could be 1957'.
2/ 'Any names to faces? Lumpers sorting a trawler's catch of Cod at Lowestoft Fish Market on Monday 16th November 1981. The 41 Fish Lumpers employed at Lowestoft were set to lose their jobs at the end of the month the photo was taken due to trawler owners changing the way that catches were landed'.
