Lowestoft People.

Post by Dave » Sun Jul 15, 2018 12:09 am

Two very different pictures of Lowestoft people, this one comes with the information that they are 'Four ladies in cloche hats out for a stroll near the entrance of the South Pier Lowestoft on the 10th August 1930.'

This one has 'Lowestoft photographic postcard, fire, leaches, Suffolk road 1911' alongside it. It looks to me like they are old time looters after a fire.

A couple of 'Bands' made up, I'm guessing, of local Lowestoftians. The first is 'The Lowestoft Citadel Band' and the second is 'The Lowestoft Hippodrome Band', the caption with the photo made the point that they were 'wearing medals'. No dates again, I'm afraid, but I think the first image is the oldest.

Suffragettes weren't just confined to London as this photo proves, 'Photograph of an equal suffrage demonstration in Lowestoft, Suffolk'.

I've only experienced one Dave and I bet you can guess which it was.

It's possible that picture may be in my book about the Beach Village. I'll have to have a look.

Thanks to Lucy Martin from Facebook for this photo and the following information.
'Here's John Edward Goldsmith outside his shop in Cambridge Road, possibly taken in the 1920s. He lived over the road at number 42 with wife Lizzie.'
L101 John Edward Goldsmith.jpg
This one was 'Googled' and as you can read from the photo the info is 'Lowestoft Station 1904, group trip to the Alps'.
