Latest post of the previous page:

Russell Walker/Facebook supplies both photos this time.

1/ 'Sparrow's Nest Theatre when it was the town's only cinema with Susan Haynes, Leisure Services Officer at WDC. Unfortunately, the theatre only lasted 5 more years after the photo was taken when it was levelled in 1993. Photo was taken in early September 1988. I remember seeing Beetlejuice in the theatre around the same time the photo is.'

2/ ' Edward Hood, skipper of LT208 'Rotha', is at Lowestoft Harbour. Photo was taken on Saturday 4th August 1962.

'Edward Beauchamp MP for Lowestoft & Wife & John Burns MP' is from eBay. Russell Walker gives us 'Mick Whittingstall, skipper of Lowestoft inshore fishing boat LT351 'Michelle Louise', is interviewed by reporter Nick Duval (left) for Anglia TV's programme Seven Days about the problems of Britain's inshore fishermen which was aired on Friday 20th February 1981'. That's a funny looking microphone in Nick Duval's hand. :D

The first two photos are from Crispin Hook/Facebook with the following information. 'Our lifeboat crew, this picture taken in 1892 with them posing alongside the Samuel Plimsol.' Following that are the crew's names.

The third image and information is supplied by Russell Walker/Facebook. ' WWI war memorial ceremony at Royal Plain, Lowestoft including the Triton statue, South Pier + Pavilion and Children's Corner. I doubt this is a dedication ceremony to the WWI War Memorial which was not unveiled until 11th August 1921 so I will say this is either 1919 or 1920.'

Two from Russell Walker/Facebook.

1/ Alfred 'Bono' Hambly, skipper of LT310 'WFP' (Walter Frank Podd) at Lowestoft Harbour on Saturday 23rd June 1962.

2/ Who here has ridden on the Lowestoft Miniature Railway? Engine driver Albert Reynolds parades miniature steam loco replica No.45059* with some visiting children and parents on the green at The Esplanade and adjacent to the Royal Hotel. Marine Parade (left) and the Palace Cinema (right) can be seen in the background. The 10 1/4" gauge track ran from 1955-1973. Photo was taken in 1963. (* based upon Stanier-designed Black Five Class 4-6-0).

The queen was crowned at a dance held at the Victoria Hotel during a 4-day visit by the frigate and her crew to the town. Photo was taken on 14th June 1974.' Thanks to Russel Walker and Facebook.

Waveney District Council officially became the local government of the new Waveney district on 1st April 1974. Thanks to Russell Walker and Facebook.

I remember that award being made the year after we moved here. There used to be an additional sign attached to the town sign on the A146 at Carlton Colville stating "England's Beach of the Year", and was there for many years after until the early 2000's. The town sign has now been replaced with this newer one.

Two photos from Bob Johnson/Facebook, both of Boston Lodge Youth Club. The first is of the boys and the second is of the girls. Does anybody recognise someone or see themselves?

Russell Walker/Facebook has a series of photos of the Queen's visit to Lowestoft, these are the first two.

'What are your memories of the Queen's visit in 1985, please? Yes, it's really 35 years ago this year since Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited Lowestoft on Thursday 1st August 1985.'

1/ 'Railway Station Crowd.' Bob Johnson/Facebook gets the credit for this one. Anyone want to have a guess at the date?

2/ 'St Margaret's Junior School staff 1955.' Thanks to Bob again, does anyone recognise their teacher from all those years ago?

Well, it's definitely NOT 2020 as they aren't 'social distancing' ;)

At a guess - late 1960s or early 1970s. Was that your question Dave, or that of Ben Johnson?

My question, boatbuilder, I think you're right as I can see some of my 'fashionable' clothes amongst the crowd. I must have a clear-out of my wardrobe, perhaps flares are a bit out of date now.

Thanks for that, kerch, perhaps we'll split the difference between you and boatbuilder and call it late 50's, early 60's. I couldn't possibly know as I'm far too young to remember that far back. :notme:
