Aldi - Lowestoft

Post by boatbuilder » Thu Jan 05, 2017 7:49 pm

A couple of weeks ago I thought I would try Aldi (for the first time) and was reasonably impressed. That was the Wednesday night before Christmas and it was very busy. Last week I went of Friday morning and again, very busy. I thought I would go there this evening as they are open until 10-pm weeknights and Saturday - and definitely was UNIMPRESSED. Why? Well take a look at the picture taken at 7-22pm - hardly any fruit and veg on the shelves. Why do they bother to open until 10-pm?

The fruit and veg in my local Aldi never look s very fresh, don't use it much. Only busy in the summer with tourists.

Our Aldi is extremely busy and there are times such as Saturday evening when they just can't seem to keep up with replenishing the shelves.

Llidl's for us. :)

Plus Asda,Tesco or Sainsbury depending how many vouchers or deals are on offer - SWMBO knows best - so she tells me.

Thanks for that Mel.

I did actually contact them through their website contact link that evening and they emailed a reply to me the following morning.
Here is what I wrote to them and their reply.

At least they had the decency to reply to you Boatbuilder. Maybe you can expect some Aldi shopping vouchers in the post in the next week or so :)

I love Aldi and Lldl and get twice the amount in my trolley as when I shop anywhere else Their fruit and veg is actually excellent and I ve only ever seen it full but then I ve never gone for a night time shop 6 30 would have been the latest I ve been and I ve done an early morning one I m thinking if there's been an unusually big run on it they won't want to put the fresh stuff out until the morning
Aldi at Pakefield is now not coming until 2018 I m really looking forward to the new bigger Lldl opening in Feb, not long to wait now

I certainly agree with you regarding the pricing and quality of veg in Aldi although our local Lidl seems to have poorer quality F&V up here. I get a huge trolley load in Aldi for approx. £80 each week whereas this would be more like £120 in Tesco or Asda. I don't see where you think the Mail article is pro-Brexit though, it says how prices have gone up since the vote and how more people are turning to Aldi and Lidl to get a better deal and how the UK "big three" are suffering. I know The Mail will turn anything into Pro-Brexit if it can just like some other papers do the opposite but can't see the link in this one.

My local Aldi is very popular and gets blitzed on a Saturday night which is when I often go in there. They have a narrow line to walk to keep the balance between presentation and wage costs but don't manage it very well, perhaps I should send in a complaint too as they had no greens at all for Sunday lunch last week when I went in. I thought of BB at the time too - didn't have my phone with me or I would have taken a picture too.

I can understand the stocks being low on a Saturday night with Sunday being a shorter trading day.

You certainly spend a lot on Fruit and Veg in a week, frankie. :D
