Surely I will have enough to buy the key and a lock - must be a start.

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
But isn' the green bin IN with the OTHER rates we pay? for services or have WDC been doing it for FREE all this time.
Just another way to fleece the minions...
Still its back to burning the GW in the garden then I may even add in the paper as well (need something to light the grass and bush trimmings)

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
Exactly my sentiments, nikkai and I'm sure WDC haven't been doing it for free either.
However, as I said earlier if everyone starts burning their GW, imagine how the area will smell, etc.

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
Well that's how we used to get rid of extra rubbish BB I remember having bonfires every now and then as long as you don't do it when the neighbours put their washing out
you can get bins with a lid and chimney now too I will have to much to put in my black bin if it stays fortnightly if they bring the black bin back to weekly then it will be manageable
You are jealous SB LOL and I ll walk over the bridge thanks LOL

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
I can last 4 weeks with my black bin, FC as I sometimes don't bother to pull it up to the footpath every fortnight. Could possibly last 6 at the moment if I compacted it down more which I have no need to. Yes, people used to burn a lot of garden rubbish but it certainly isn't healthy no matter what method is used, as it certainly does nothing for 'clean air'. What do you do if people have washing out every day near you? Not everybody washes on the same day of the week. It's not like what it used to be, when Monday was washing day, like it was when I was young.

No I realise all that BB not saying it's how it should be but guessing thats what a lot of people will do
Don't know how you have so little rubbish all three of my bins need to be emptied on the two weeks schedule they are usually all 'ready' I expect fly tipping will increase as I think a lot of people won't pay extra It s always difficult to remove a service especially one you have encouraged people to use

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
I have an incinerator (bin with lid and chimney) though it is (was) seldom used, we did try to compost but as there is mares-tail that idea went out the window.
With the rates as high as they are and now the bin charge is added to insult what would WDC expect !
I live close to the recycle center though the cue to get in is long and then as I put the stuff in a trailer you get the Spanish inquisition as to whets in there.
I have had to clear up the WDC grass and weed trimmings from the front as they let it get so long then just strimer it then it goes everywhere in our garden.
I did trim it myself but was told by a jobs worth NOT to as it was WDC's responsibility? and they are the only ones to do it??
And I am aware of washing so would burn at a time there was non out at an evening period.

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
On the subject of burning garden waste, it reminded me of something that happened just a couple of weeks back which might become more common place if more people were to take to the burning of it.
My wife and I were sat here watching TV one night and as it was rather warm we had the windows open. We could smell what we thought was somebody nearby burning garden waste (it had that smell about it) and eventually decided to close the windows as the smell was just becoming too overpowering. It was now about 9-30 and so was starting to get dark and we still had the curtains open. I happened to glimpse up and noticed the reflection of a flashing blue light in the bay window which then disappeared although nothing had passed the house. I had a look outside but could see nothing so went outside and walked to the start of the cul-de-sac that is just a couple of houses away and there was a fire engine at one of the houses near the end of the cul-de-sac. I couldn't see any evidence of fire so assumed it must have been a garden rubbish fire at the back of the property that perhaps had gotten a little out of control.
FC, I also wonder how you manage to accumulate so much black-bin waste for one person. Are you sure your neighbours aren't helping you fill it, unknowingly?

£42 pounds is about what we pay here at Norwich North.

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
I thought I would post this news item here as it highlights potential problems in light of this discussion.
Three cows die after 'eating fly-tipped waste' in Conwy
Three young cows died after eating poisonous tree cuttings dumped in a Conwy farmer's field, North Wales Police has said.
The Friesians, aged 16 months, were found dead in Dolwen, near Old Colwyn, on Friday after eating clippings from yew and leylandii trees.
Sgt Rob Taylor, of the rural crime team, said a post-mortem examination showed plant toxins were to blame.
He said the force was investigating the "atrocious" act of fly-tipping.
"I'm appalled that the selfish action of someone dumping their waste has killed three animals. We are investigating and will analyse CCTV," he added.

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
I shall be getting rid of my green bin I don't fill it that much anyway really, but I think if they said when they brought the scheme out there might be a possibility of a charge in the future then people could have decided then.

Re: Waveney to Charge for Green Waste Collections
We ll I do get an awful lot of green waste so will have to bag it up for the black bin or get help going to the dump more
If they are not going to empty the green bin within our community tax payment do we now get a weekly black bin service ......I guess not silly me
