Latest post of the previous page:

Do we all think that by February 2018 there will be men in high vis jackets ready to construct the new bridge??

No they will just be doing yet another study of the roadways and the other waste of monies which are tagged on because the last half dozen studies will be out of date and unreliable much like the one which will inevitably be carried out during the 2018 bridge consortium or whatever they or them wish to call the cash cow for their own gain...

I have just been looking at the 'Outline Business Case' for the Third Crossing which is available at the following link as a PDF and noticed a stupid mistake on the first page in the address of Mouchel Ltd., - Woking, Suffolk GU21 6QX. Of course we all know that Woking is in Surrey, isn't it? :D

Its going to take a few hours to read an inwardly digest this. After skimming through a few bits I'm still not 100% sure which side of Asda it will be going. Pity it is single carriageway again and a pity it will have to be opened for shipping and tall masts but if it is far enough away from the current bridge at least it should not be open at the same time (as long as the person who decided when to close the OB North barriers is not in charge). There is a 12m clearance under the bridge but I'm not quite sure at what state of the tide that is. I'd be quite pleased if I could walk from Beechwood Gardens to the North Retail Park in 28 mins as this is apparently possible? Even Google can't do it by foot in less than 48 mins?

Frankie, it is proposed to be to the west of Asda, taking in Riverside road (that ran between the two sides of the Coop canning factory) with the other side joining up near the North Quay park. Why would you want to walk from Beechwood Gardens when you live in Lancashire? :?

I wouldn't to be honest but the report gives the time it would take to drive and walk to the North Retail Park from Beechwood Gardens and even Eddie Izzard wouldn't be able to do it in that time.

According to latest reports, the crossing has been put back until 2022 at the earliest. I seem to recall our prime minister of the day, David Cameron, not just making a statement but actually making a promise, giving his 'word' that the 3rd crossing would be built and open for business by 2020. Once again, I feel let down and betrayed by our political leaders, including our own MP Peter Aldous.

Never belive what politicians say, too easy to make promises about projects they have no control over.

If Cameron was M.P for Lowestoft and had to live with problem maybe something would have been done .We can dream! ! !

At first reading this paragraph (below) seemed to be saying that Network Rail have a stake in the current bascule bridge - I can't see why they would but upon reading it again I think maybe the sentence was just badly worded? I can see why they would have an interest in the new bridge as their lines would need to go beneath it.
"I will of course make sure that we also work closely with the port, the much needed flood defence project, Network Rail and Highways England, who are responsible for the existing Bascule bridge."

I'm afraid I will only believe we are getting a third crossing when I see it being built!

Welcome, Kirkley girl. I would think most people will think the same way. Only seeing is believing.

I agree with you Kirkley Girl and I think we will need a new second crossing (bascule bridge) before a third one starts as the maintenance work needed on it seems to take longer and longer every year...I don't think it will last many more years :(
