Good Afternoon, Noticed this morn, there is a "Bargain Point" shop
opening where the Health Food shop was, opposite The Welcome Public House...

Rumours are circulating that M&S are going into the new Gateway retail park near Morrison's. This apparently is to be food only, but if this is true there is a doubt about the shop in town. When Yarmouth did this the store near the Market Place closed down. Oh Dear!!

Oh dear indeed, Meryl! If that happens there will be only one food shop left in the town centre . . . Tesco!
I get quite a few of M&S ready meals – gives me a wider choice than I would get than if I did it myself! Very sad news if true – and there’s usually no smoke without fire!

If it is true, then the shop in town could possibly utilise the food hall there to give more space to the clothing - which it badly needs in my opinion. It's too cramped particularly for disabled users as has previously been mentioned by me elsewhere on the forum.

Here is a pdf document regarding the Gateway Retail Park. I don't think it is up-to-date, though. I states opening Q4 2018 but another site states March 2019.

The rumours are saying that the pet shop Jolleys who had shown an interest, have now pulled out and M&S are now considering that site. May simply be rumours. We will have to wait and see.

The new Aldi Store in South Lowestoft is opening on Thursday 8th August, so I have been informed by Aldi. However, the following statement was also included:"Please be advised that this is subject to change and further details of this should be well advertised in the area closer to the time."

'The Range' is due to open on 26th July according to their website.

Does anyone know what is happening at the old Maplin store on North Quay Retail Park?

It appears that they have the builders in and I was wondering if there was someone moving in.

I brought my weekly shopping forward a day this week to this evening, and tried the new Aldi store, which opened this morning on the new Gateway Retail Park. Although the layout is very similar to the one on Millenium way, it is larger and there seems to be more aisle width and so made the experience that much better. It is also about two miles closer for me than the other store. :D

Last Saturday we tried the new 'Range' store that is close by and was pleased with that as well.

However, there is one BIG fault with the design of the new retail park, which needs rectifying sooner rather than later, and that is when leaving and turning right out of the car park, when you are the front car in the queue, the view to the right is considerably obscured by the tall sign which is solid all the way down to within a matter of inches from the ground. There needs to be a larger gap - 5 to 6 foot - at the bottom of the sign to give a less obscured view of the road to the right, as traffic is also coming around a bend from the nearby roundabout, and when turning right you are also having to check the traffic from the left. It's certainly an extremely badly designed layout as there is also the road opposite as well to consider. In my opinion a small/mini roundabout would have also been better than the slightly offset crossroads, which is what the junction is currently. Hopefully those responsible will realise this pretty quickly before there are any accidents.

The two images below are from my dashcam and were taken last Saturday.

The first shows the sign as you approach to turn into the car park from the south, along Tower Road. The second, on which I turned my dashcam to the right, shows as best I can, the obstructed view from the car when waiting to turn out.

Does anyone know what is going on with the old Body shop? There is a sign in the window asking for "sales assistants"
