I brought my weekly shopping forward a day this week to this evening, and tried the new Aldi store, which opened this morning on the new Gateway Retail Park. Although the layout is very similar to the one on Millenium way, it is larger and there seems to be more aisle width and so made the experience that much better. It is also about two miles closer for me than the other store.
Last Saturday we tried the new 'Range' store that is close by and was pleased with that as well.
However, there is one BIG fault with the design of the new retail park, which needs rectifying sooner rather than later, and that is when leaving and turning right out of the car park, when you are the front car in the queue, the view to the right is considerably obscured by the tall sign which is solid all the way down to within a matter of inches from the ground. There needs to be a larger gap - 5 to 6 foot - at the bottom of the sign to give a less obscured view of the road to the right, as traffic is also coming around a bend from the nearby roundabout, and when turning right you are also having to check the traffic from the left. It's certainly an extremely badly designed layout as there is also the road opposite as well to consider. In my opinion a small/mini roundabout would have also been better than the slightly offset crossroads, which is what the junction is currently. Hopefully those responsible will realise this pretty quickly before there are any accidents.
The two images below are from my dashcam and were taken last Saturday.
The first shows the sign as you approach to turn into the car park from the south, along Tower Road. The second, on which I turned my dashcam to the right, shows as best I can, the obstructed view from the car when waiting to turn out.
