The Lowestoft 3rd Road Crossing - LATEST
I have just come across this Youtube video which was published on November 22nd 2013 of Peter Colby's meeting presenting the third crossing proposal.
The video is 22 minutes long and I thought it worth posting on here. Best viewed full screen and 1080 HD. To do this you need to click on the Youtube link at the bottom of the video screen. There is quite a bit of footage of the town included so those further afield should also find it interesting.

Thanks for the link BB,all very interesting although I believe other developments have taken place since that meeting. I have also viewed other utube videos of the destruction at Cromer and elseware. When the sea is angry it is a very powerful force.

Interesting to watch the Colby and Blizzard Show going on about a plan nearly 50 years old.
Maybe time to try something new?

Its very easy to blame WDC, but they are elected. And if people don't like the choice then they can always stand for election themselves.
But it's so much easier to pretend we are still living in the 60's rather than face up to the world as it is

Has a one-way circular road ever been considered--that way only one route would be closed at a time if a bridge was up

I have travelled a lot and I must tell you that here in Australia all our major bridges are of the fly-over variety.
Lowestoft particularly fortunate in being high at both ends, it is therefore well suited for fly-over bridges (meaning no bridge delays again ever!).

Well they weren't elected by me LOL
At least in the 60's the town was a great town with character and a lot going on all of which has been pulled down taken away or lost by WDc

Just came across this document in a link from the BBC Suffolk website. It is due for discussion in a meeting on 27th January.
The first link downloads a PDF Document size 17.7MB.

Some interesting options indicated in that document.

Re: The Lowestoft 3rd Road Crossing - LATEST
I am no bridge expert and someone can say I am wrong but the Conservative proposal is to build another bridge just the other side of the customs house. However when a vessel like the grain ships visit Lowestoft or go out of Lowestoft harbour, wont both bridges need to be lifted? The new bridge and the bascule bridge will be to close together when vessels are leaving the harbour which would defeat the object of a third bridge?
In the end its not about how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

That certainly looks to be the case with that option 728. That seems the least sensible of the three.

But it's the most cost effective and therefore most likely to be funded.
Also it would be ready to take over once the current bridge is decommissioned at the end of its life.
If people of Lowestoft think they're going to get a new bridge and also another new one to replace bascule bridge in the future they are kidding themselves.

LOWESTOFT NEEDS A THIRD CROSSING, NOT JUST A REPLACEMENT BRIDGE
PUBLIC MEETING
Only 8 people and 11 businesses have said they want what Tory controlled Waveney and Suffolk Councils and the Tory MP are proposing.
Peter Colby and Bob Blizzard will respond to this at:
7.00pm on January 28th at the Victoria Hotel
Come and have YOUR say.

Re: The Lowestoft 3rd Road Crossing - LATEST
Please don't try to turn this topic into a political battle, and certainly not pro-Labour. How many years was 'Bob' our MP, and how far did he get with getting us a third crossing?
By the way, I'm not for or against any party. I don't believe we need a third crossing in the middle of the other two. It won't help traffic anywhere near as much as people think. Also the cost/benefit analysis will never justify it.
